According to my learning plan, my goal for this week is to ”work on memorizing the repeats so that I can work the pattern without always having it in front of me.” I haven’t quite made it to the point where I can get through a row without referencing the pattern at some point, but my memory for the stitch pattern is definitely improving.
This Week’s Progress (and some thoughts on my learning process)
Despite having a really busy week, I was able to make it through a full chart repeat of my shawl. I’ve been thinking about how I’ve been finding it really challenging to find the time and motivation to work on it with how overloaded my brain is with all of my classes.
As a result, I’ve been considering the importance of mindset and environment in teaching oneself something. I have been struggling to learn as quickly as I have learned other knitting techniques because I feel like so much of my capacity for acquiring new skills is being used in other places.
This has made my progress on this week’s learning goal pretty slow going.
That aside, I’m enjoying seeing my work grow!

Sound Recording Experiment
This week I tried recording the sound of my metal needles while I’m knitting. When you listen to it, you can hear the pauses where I’ve had to stop or slow down to look at my pattern. I thought it would be interesting to record my knitting again in a future week to see if you can hear any differences when it comes to the speed and flow of my work!

I love seeing your progress! I definitely relate to underestimating how your environment and headspace affect progress while learning something new. However, despite any setbacks, I must say that your shawl is looking ADORABLE.
Love the pattern for your shawl!
I searched through many posts to find the infamous knitting ASMR, and, I must say, it did not disappoint. It’s excellent world-building (blog-building?) and I feel like I’m right there on the knitting journey! Excited to see the final result 🙂
Also, I saw in your first blog post that you started knitting seriously during covid, which shocks me! I assumed you were a knitting prodigy your entire life the way your personally made clothes look!
