Learning Mosaic Knitting—Week 2

According to my learning plan, this week I need to choose and purchase yarn, needles and pattern, read over pattern in depth and watch YouTube videos demonstrating mosaic knitting technique.

Yarn

Well, I was so excited about my new project that I went and purchased the yarn right away as shown in my last blog post. I made sure to pick colours that contrast well as I know from previous knitting experience that techniques that use colour pop when you choose contrasting yarns. I wanted a yarn that I knew I could achieve the correct gauge as per the pattern with and something that wouldn’t split easily. This is the yarn that I ended up with.

Instructional Video

Next I found an instructional youtube video on the basics of mosaic knitting by someone that I’ve followed tutorials from before and know to be a trustworthy resource. Below is the video that I watched.

Read Over Pattern

I am unable to share details of the pattern here because it is a copyrighted, paid for pattern but I did read it over in detail and plan to cast on tomorrow! I am quite confused by the charts but watching the video above was a great start in getting clarification and I’m sure that it will seem less intimidating once I have my needles in hand and am able to try things out.
